The Journal of Prison Education and Reentry (JPER) operates under a Diamond Open Access publishing model. This means that the journal does not charge authors any article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, publication fees, or other mandatory charges for the consideration, peer review, editing, or publication of manuscripts.
Authors may submit their work to JPER without any financial obligation. There are no fees for initial submission, peer review, revisions, editorial processing, online publication, or open-access availability. Publication decisions are based solely on the scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and contribution of the submitted work.
JPER is committed to removing financial barriers to scholarly communication. The journal recognizes that researchers, practitioners, educators, students, and contributors working in prison education and reentry may come from institutions and communities with different levels of financial support. By maintaining a Diamond Open Access model, JPER aims to ensure that the ability to publish is not dependent on an author’s capacity to pay.
All accepted articles are made freely available online immediately after publication. Readers are not required to pay subscription fees, access charges, or download fees to read published content.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Under this license, users may read, download, share, distribute, reproduce, and adapt published work, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author or authors and the initial publication in JPER is acknowledged.
The journal’s Diamond Open Access policy therefore provides free access at both ends of the publishing process:
Authors pay no APC or publication fee, and readers pay no access or subscription fee.
JPER does not offer paid fast-track review, paid acceptance, or any other fee-based service that could influence editorial or peer-review decisions. All manuscripts are processed according to the same editorial standards and review procedures regardless of the authors’ institution, country, funding status, or financial circumstances.
There are currently no mandatory charges associated with publishing in JPER.
If authors receive any communication requesting payment for submission, peer review, acceptance, publication, DOI assignment, or access to an article while claiming to represent JPER, they are encouraged to verify the request directly with the journal before making any payment.
